Country: Belgium

Univerbal is a social interpreting service led by migrant, The project is made up of people who have been trained to interpret in a social environment. It proposes a service of interpretation to organizations that constantly require interpreters such as the NGO Red Cross, Caritas Belgium, and also local social services.

Migrants have linguistic talents which can ultimately structure a social interpretation service in Liège. The Univerbal project finds its reason for being in the need to offer an innovative device to enhance the know-how, talents and skills of migrants in the linguistic field. The interpreters of the service are all natives in the languages offered who have arrived in Belgium recently or for a longer time. Interpreters know from the inside the migrant's journey in Belgium, the administrative procedures to be carried out as well as the problem of the asylum request in Belgium. They have undergone training in social interpretation (Trialog or Univerbal) provided by Le Monde des Possibles in partnership with the Regional Integration Center of Liège, Red Cross and other partners.
